In order to sign up for volunteer shifts you must follow the link above and sign in to your parent account. Signups will be available once the SMYFA Official game schedule has been published.
As a reminder, the following rules were agreed to when you signed our Parent Contract:
- Commit to MANDATORY game duty of a minimum of 4 shifts per family during the season on game days, either on the field, in the concession stand, or in the press box.
- Provide a replacement (of at least 18 years of age) for that duty if I am unable to fulfill my responsibility. Responsibility for the fulfillment of the mandatory game duty lies with the originally assigned family. Any shift changes must be coordinated with the volunteer coordinator. If I fail to fulfill my obligation, my child will not be allowed to play in the following week’s game.
- Report for my assigned duty on time. NO children are allowed in the concessions area, press box, or on the field.
Commerce Chargers Volunteer Descriptions
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
Check- in time for all shifts unless otherwise notated
(Flag – 8:45, Freshman – 10:45, JV – 12:45, Varsity – 2:45)
Concession/Spirit Wear Setup – Arrive at concession stand at 8:00 AM game day to assist in the setup for the day. Unload the items in the trailer into the concession stand. Assist with getting the concession area operational for meal service. Shift ends 15 – 30 minutes after start of Flag Game.
Concessions – Sell concessions and prepare food throughout the shift. May be asked to assist at Grill if needed. The shift ends at the end of your game, or for varsity when cleanup is complete.
Grilling – Grill hot dogs and hamburgers/cheeseburgers following health department standards, which will be provided game day. May be asked to assist in Concessions if needed. The shift ends at the end of your game, or for varsity when cleanup is complete.
Spirit Wear – Sell spirit wear and maintain inventory of spirit wear during the Freshman or Junior Varsity game. The shift ends at the end of your game, or for Junior Varsity when cleanup is complete.
50/50 Tickets – Sell 50/50 tickets throughout the home/visitor stands during the 1st and 2nd quarters. The shift will end after the drawing, at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
Game Clock –Maintains the game clock throughout the game. Instructions will be provided for clock management and must be adhered to, per league officials, (prior experience is beneficial).
Game Announcer – Announces the game, plays music and gives announcements throughout the game. Basic script will be provided.
Music/Techno and Booth Spotter – Runs the Scoreboard graphics and music for game times. Assists the game announcer with spotting the players involved in the play. Rosters will be provided.
Chain Gang/Down Marker – Responsible for chains and/or down marker under the direction of the game officials. (No cell phones and no yelling/arguing from the sidelines). Flag down marker position for Flag game may assist in set up of field including putting up pads on the goal posts, setting up scale and removing debris from field. Varsity chain gang may assist in putting away chains, down markers, scale and pads on the goal posts and removing debris off the field.
Floater – Assists where additional help is needed for the game. This may include any of the volunteer shifts indicated above.
Cheerfest Volunteers – Responsible for helping Cheerfest director with various responsibilities including preparing the location for the event, obtaining and setting up food and keeping the teams on schedule in order to make Cheerfest run smoothly. Actual start and end time for the event and volunteer shifts may change but not the duration of the shifts. All day shifts counts as 4 volunteer positions and half day counts as 2 volunteer shifts.
